MacConnect is co-located in the AboveNet Tyson's Corner ISX. This gives us a clear channel 100 Mbps connection to the world class AboveNet backbone and access to all the goodies one would expect to find in a major data center. Lets take a peek inside ...

The heart of it all ...
CISCO 12000 series routers
BIG IRON! Our competitors boast entry level and mid-level routers such as the CISCO 2500 series, 4000 series or 7200 series. Only MacConnect passes its Internet traffic through AboveNet's fault tolerant array of three CISCO 12000 series routers!

Moving In ...
That's a lotta racks!
That's alotta racks! The AboveNet facility is approximately 12,000 square feet in size. We're just five floors below MAE-East, in the heart of Internet land. UUNet, Cable & Wireless, Teligent, Winstar, and Network Solutions are a literal stone's throw away. PSINet is located about 10 minutes away in Herndon. This is really where the Internet starts!
Mmmmm.... crimping cables.
Network administrator Brendan McAlpine hard at work crimping cat 5 cable. Every server in our hosting center enjoys a dedicated cat 5 connection to a 10 Mbps Cisco Catalyst ethernet switch port. All server switches are aggregated onto a 100 Mbps switched backbone.
Some colocated servers.
Ever wonder what a "rack full o' Macs" looks like? Here's a few of the colocated servers we take care of. There are plenty more where these come from, but our little digital camera can only do so much! If you squint real hard, you can see the MacInTouch server way in the back. A few million page views every month with Ric's Mac and our network. Very cool.
Velocity hosting array.
An array of three blue and white G3s handles Velocity (shared server) hosting. The G3s work great in the racks with the addition of little rubber feet adhered to the side.

Above the G3s are a couple of FreeBSD servers handling network status and POP finder functions.

Power Systems
The premier power system in the AboveNet facility makes outages obsolete, utilizing an AC-DC-AC conversion process to eliminate surges, to meet the demands of both AC and DC equipment, and to provide nonstop power. Its heart is the Automatic Transfer Control Logic system (ATCL) that monitors power throughout the system to draw only from the most reliable sources.
Diesel Generator
AboveNet's on-site diesel generator is tested on a regular basis and has the ability to run the entire facility at full load for an indefinite period of time.
Batteries
Anyone need a battery or two?
